In the Defense of Avenged Sevenfold Part 3: A Little Piece of Heaven

Today I just watched this music video that a lot of A7X fans are talking about. It's insane. It's disturbing. It's morbid. So, being the curious person that I am, I decided to watch the video after a tearful session from watching the video of So Far Away. (Here is the link to the music video of ALPOH. WARNING: SUM OF DIS VIDIO IS XTREMLY SCRAY. VIOWER EXCRETION ADVISD. It is indeed disturbing and is intended for audience 16 and up I guess... The good news is that it's just animated. I would be scared off also if it was live-action. I would not be able to look deeper into the song lyrics if the music video is TOO disturbing.)

Obviously, there were people who were saying that the video and the lyrics are fucked-up. Y'know, that sort of thing. But it's just that there are some things in this world that are really that harsh and should not be sugar-coated at all, such as the trials that come in a relationship, which is what the song (and the video) are all about.

So now for the song analysis that usually comes with these types of blog posts...
(viower excretion, ahem, viewer discretion advised. This is my interpretation of the song as read between the lines, and not everyone will agree with it. Obviously. It's impossible to please everyone.)

A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN

Before the story begins, is it such a sin
For me to take what's mine until the end of time?
We were more than friends before the story ends
And I will take what's mine, create what God would never design

In the video at this point, the guy is proposing to the girl, but she rejects. Now he is angered and asks if it is such a sin to have her until the end of time.

Our love had been so strong for far too long
I was weak with fear that something would go wrong
Before the possibilities came true I took all possibility from you
Almost laughed myself to tears, conjuring her deepest fears

He really did not expect rejection and did not understand that she was not ready for such commitment. Ego is something that is very important to any man, and, more often than not, a man would fear rejection. In the way that society looks at men, men have to be dominant and those who are weak are being looked down upon. They who are rejected therefore are weak in the eyes of society.

Must have stabbed her fifty fucking times
I can't believe it
Ripped her heart out right before her eyes
Eyes over easy, eat it, eat it, eat it

If literally interpreted, the guy in the video did stab her 50 times and ripped out her heart when she was still alive. Figuratively, they had a falling out and he felt enough anger akin to having stabbed her for fifty times. We all have those moments of extreme anger that we just want to rip someone's heart out or something like that. He also fed off her pain and misery while he was being slowly devoured by the anger that was corrupting him.

She was never this good in bed even when she was sleeping
Now she's just so perfect, I've never been quite so fucking deep in
It goes on and on, and on, I can keep you looking young
And preserved forever with a fountain to spray on your youth whenever

In the video, he woohoos (it's a Sims thing) with the corpse of his girlfriend. This can be interpreted as the time when no more love is felt in the relationship, or more precisely, when the love dies. He's just in it for the sex at this point. This is a harsh reality that happens in some relationships. This is when a man enforces his dominion upon the woman and forces her to submit to his will. In reality, this situation can be compared to the battered wives of today.

'Cause I really always knew that my little crime
Would be cold that's why I got a heater for your thighs
And I know, I know it's not your time but bye, bye
And a word to the wise when the fire dies
You think it's over but it's just begun, baby don't cry

The love may have died, but the passion (in the contexts of both anger and lust) still ignites on and on. That's the meaning of the thigh heater. When all the love has died, the only thing that keeps them together is the sex. In reality, this can be compared to the women who only have possessive husbands/boyfriends who are after their bodies. She is now a possession of his: a toy to be exact, all because of the fact that she rejected his proposal and he misunderstood her.

You had my heart, at least for the most part
'Cause everybody's gotta die sometime
We fell apart, let's make a new start

'Cause everybody's gotta die sometime, but baby, don't cry

For the most part, they did have a good relationship until that incident. He decides at this point that because everybody will have to die, he will make a new start. That, just like her, he will also die.

Now possibilities I'd never considered
Are occurring the likes of which I'd never heard
Now an angry soul comes back from beyond the grave
To repossess a body with which I'd misbehaved

He never thought that the day will come that she will arise from the dead. This symbolizes the start of the feminism movement. Or on a smaller scale, this can also represent the time when the battered girlfriend/wife will get fed up and learn to stand up for herself.

Smiling right from ear to ear
Almost laughed herself to tears

Must have stabbed him fifty fucking times
I can't believe it
Ripped his heart out right before his eyes
Eyes over easy, eat it, eat it, eat it

What this line basically says is that revenge can be an unpredictable bitch. So is retribution.

Now that it's done, I realize the error of my ways
I must venture back to apologize
From somewhere far beyond the grave

He realizes the errors of his ways and decides to start anew. This brings hope to their relationship, and this is the core message of the song. In reality, this song is supposed to represent hope that dysfunctional relationships, or as I'd like to call them, relationshits, can be reconciled.

I gotta make up for what I've done
'Cause I was all up in a piece of heaven
While you burned in hell, no peace forever

He realizes that he has a lot to make up for because, while he was enjoying the moments (symbolized by the piece of heaven) when he was inflicting pain on her, she was weeping with no hope for solace.

'Cause I really always knew that my little crime
Would be cold that's why I got a heater for your thighs
And I know, I know it's not your time but bye, bye
And a word to the wise when the fire dies
You think it's over but it's just begun but baby, don't cry

He looked back at his past deeds and it has been reimposed upon him that he did the wrong thing.

You had my heart at least for the most part
'Cause everybody's gotta die sometime
We fell apart, let's make a new start

'Cause everybody's gotta die sometime, but baby, don't cry
 He apologizes to her.

I will suffer for so long
(What will you do, not long enough?)
To make it up to you
(I pray to God that you do)
I'll do whatever you want me to do
(Well then I?ll break you unchained)

He renews his faith in God in hopes that he can finally make it up to her.

And if it's not enough
(If it?s not enough, if it?s not enough)
If it's not enough
(Not enough)
Try again
(Try again)
And again
(And again)
Over and over again

If his apologies are not enough, he would do anything for her even if it meant that he will have to do it over and over again.

We're coming back, coming back
We'll live forever, live forever
Let's have a wedding, have a wedding
Let's start the killing, start the killing

She finally accepted his proposal and from that point on, they started to move on and kill the memories of their horrible pasts. Living forever can be represented with being able to go through the ups and downs of a committed relationship.

'Cause I really always knew that my little crime
Would be cold that's why I got a heater for your thighs
And I know, I know it's not your time but bye, bye
And a word to the wise when the fire dies
You think it's over but it's just begun but baby, don't cry

But then, no matter how hard they try to leave the horrible memories behind, the scars are still there, which is represented by the fact that the thigh heater is still there. In the video, since they're both dead, they still needed the heater to make the love feel real. But in reality, this symbolizes the aftermath of being in a relationshit. Despite the fact that the couple may have reconciled already, the memories will always be there. This can also symbolize that they have both died to their selfish desires and decided to empty themselves for the sake of each other. Not to mention zombies are pretty cool.

You had my heart at least for the most part
'Cause everybody's gotta die sometime
We fell apart, let's make a new start

'Cause everybody's gotta die sometime, but baby, don't cry

A final note on this post: I really think I should get to writing about Green Day and My Chemical Romance, my top 2 favorite bands, already. A7x as a matter of fact is my 3rd favorite band. And I should really go back to posting my artworks which is what this blog is for in the first place. But anyway, I just feel the need to post this song analysis.
